Water Generation Plant — Automation & Monitoring System

Engineering challenge

The water generation plant supplying production was run on manual monitoring and control — operators tracked and adjusted the process by hand, with no centralized visibility into plant status.

System architecture
FIELD DEVICES→ SENSORS / TRANSMITTERS→ PLC — S7-1500→ CONTROL LOGIC→ SCADA / HMI — WINCC→ OPERATOR
My role

Designed the plant's P&ID and electrical control system, and programmed the automation logic and SCADA/HMI.

System function

The PLC executes the control logic for the water generation process and reports status to a SCADA interface, giving operators live visibility and control.

Result

Replaced manual monitoring and adjustment with automated control and operator visualization for the water generation process.

Engineering challenge

The water generation plant's control system had no visibility outside the plant floor — supervising the process meant being physically at the panel.

System architecture
PLC→ INDUSTRIAL NETWORK→ IGNITION SCADA→ ENGINEERING ROOM
My role

Developed the SCADA application in Ignition for the engineering room.

System function

Ignition SCADA connects to the plant's PLC and displays process status for supervisory monitoring from the engineering room.

Result

Gave the engineering room direct visibility into the water generation plant's process status.

Dan Miguel Espayos is a Registered Electrical Engineer and Registered Master Electrician (PRC), with four years of experience across industrial maintenance and electrical engineering. He currently works as a Multi-Skilled Technician at Magnum RFM Ice Cream Inc., where his responsibilities span substation operation, utility maintenance, and — most recently — the automation of the plant's water generation system. His focus is on the intersection of electrical systems and process automation: understanding not just how equipment is wired, but how it should behave.
